Can you provide leaf control and help with acorns? Yes, again we are one of the few providers that routinely use mowers that can collect leaves for disposal off site. In addition we use a vaccume system that can pick up acorns that are not pressed into the turf or soil. In our opinion it is best to routinely pickup (not mulch) acorns and live oak leaves as they both inhibit grass growth. Do you maintain shrubs? Yes. Some are slow growers and only require a slight pruning. Other groups just require a grooming, while others (especially Elaeagnus) require weekly pruning.

What's new?

Over the next several weeks recommendations for pre-emergents will abound. We do not recommend pre-emergents as they have a tendancy to have negative impacts on turf. Our opinion is the best way to discourage weeds is to encourage turf.

Just checked our soil temperatures. Ground temp is 48. Dandelion seed germinates at 50; Crab grass at 58. Temperatures are rocking up and down. Weeds are germinating before our truf grass comes out of a dormant stage. What does this mean? Weeds are winning. Its time to spray existing weeds and apply pre-emergent for those that have not yet emerged. If doing it yourself, please read you labels. What you will find is that chemicals (pre-e's included) should be applied to established turf not...

Plans for 2019 are underway aimed at maintaining turf and shrubs. We have increased our capacity for catching grass/leaves fielding the largest fleet of Walker Brand mowers in Abilene. We have also increased our capacity too apply liquid fertilizers; added a new line of granular bio-char homogenized fertilizer with the first shipment arriving in February. We are researching and monitoring applications: testing growth regulators on grass and shrubs; applying a flora product to improve shrub...
