Our mission is to empower refugees, immigrants, human trafficking survivors, and underserved Sacramento area residents to achieve self-sufficiency by accessing opportunities to mainstream economic and social systems. We do this by providing safe places, skills development, business loans, and connections to community resources, assisting our clients to build financial and personal assets while maintaining their cultural identity and individual goals. Opening Doors began in 1993 as a small refugee resettlement agency called the Sacramento Refugee Ministry, which was sponsored by the Interfaith Service Bureau.
Opening Doors' nonprofit structure for decision-making is modeled after the best practices for nonprofit organizations. The volunteer Board of Directors is a governance body that meets periodically to ensure adequate funding to carry out our mission and programs and protect financial assets. The Board ensures effective organizational planning to sustain the organization and that programs and services are consistent with Opening Doors' mission. The Board delegates to the CEO the day-to-day operations and management of the organization.
