It snowed (not heavy but steadily) last night. The guys started plowing at 4am. It just kept snowing and snowing which is hard on the equipment: they were able to fix a front blade but they still have a back blade out of commission. They're working their way pretty well through their routes although, of course, the more snow there is the longer it takes to clear everything. They'll get some sleep (probably about mid afternoon) and start plowing again tonight to clean things up.
It looks like some snow is heading our way. The guys are doing equipment checks and fueling up the trucks. If the prediction is for 2 inches we generally wait until the snow is done before we start plowing. The snow coming tonight though looks like it might be significantly heavier - perhaps up to 8 inches. We plan to start plowing while it is still snowing. Our plan is to do a good but not absolutely thorough plow so we can get the snow cleared out on everyone's driveway and parking lot. Once.
The guys were ready to start plowing this morning at 4 but the snow didn't start until 4:30. There was finally enough snow by 8 for them to go out. We'll see how much snow we end up getting!
Last fall our area meteorologists told us that this winter would be a lot like our winter two years ago - not much snow until mid January and then we would receive a lot of it. Of course, it's Michigan and the Great Lakes affect our weather quite a bit, so we'll see what happens! We are prepared to go out plowing tonight; we'll see if there is enough snow to plow! Last night was our first time plowing this season. I would like to thank our customers for being patient and understanding. This is the worst type of snow for us, a wet heavy snow adds about 10-20% onto the time. then it also came in two parts, we received over half in the evening and early night and then got more shortly before daybreak. The guys started about 1:30, shortly after the first batch of snow stopped, and ran through all the accounts. We are planning on going out again this evening.
