Copeland, owner of a large St. Paul lumber yard, bought a defunct lumber yard in the community of Gladstone (part of Maplewood) and named it Gladstone Lumber Mart. The retail operation sold lumber and building materials for many years until a decision was made to focus on windows, doors and related millwork. The business was then renamed Gladstone's Window & Door Store and has since specialized in window and door sales and installation.
