Harlequin's Gardens is a family nursery and garden center in Boulder, Colorado dedicated to natural and sustainable gardening for our region. We specialize in native plants, organic vegetable and herb starts, xeriscape, hardy roses, Colorado-adapted and unusual perennials, fruit trees and berry bushes, groundcovers, hardy cacti, seeds, and beekeeping supplies. We also offer Earth-friendly products to support your plants: soil-building products, composts, mulches, fertilizers; books by local authors; non-toxic pest-management supplies; and good advice.
Harlequin's Gardens is a small family business owned by Mikl Brawner and Eve Reshetnik Brawner that specializes in Colorado-adapted plants: hardy own-root roses, xeriscape plants, natives, perennials, shrubs, herbs, rock garden plants, fruit and trees. We have been testing these plants since 1985 at our exposed and dry North Boulder location and we welcome you to come out to visit our demonstration gardens. We are more than just a garden center; we grow many of the plants we sell, and use potting mixes we formulate ourselves to produce the strongest, not the biggest, plants.
Here at Harlequin's Gardens, we believe education is one of our most important products. Everyone knows how difficult it is to imagine what a mature plant is going to look like from seeing it in a small container, or even from a photo. Besides, we are continually testing plants to see if they are well-adapted to our difficult dry and windy North Boulder location. Usually, if a plant will grow and prosper for us, we know it will probably do well for most of you. Because we have been under water restrictions since 1985, you can trust that if we have it growing in the ground, it is very drought tolerant and it will succeed in your xeriscapes.
We call ourselves a "sustainable" nursery because since we began in 1992, we have been dedicated to sustainability. But what does "sustainability" mean in a plant nursery? In general it means providing plants that are well adapted to Colorado conditions so they will be successful with less water, fertilizers and pest management. SUSTAINABILITY IS planting and distributing natives grown from local and Colorado seed. At Harlequin's Gardens, we love to grow and sell our local natives that support our local birds, bees and butterflies.
