Our tradition starts way before that! John Kline was raised on his family farm in south Akron. He learned about growing - growing vegetables and fruit. One day he realized he had a knack for this garden growing that he studied lawns, fertilizers, trees and shrubs. When John was in his mid-thirties, he built Canton Road Garden Center with his business partner, Bill. After twenty five years, Bill retired. Canton Road Garden Center is now a 3 - acre nursery filled with landscape plants and a 12,000 square foot greenhouse loaded with gorgeous colorful flowers.
While the ground isn’t quite ready for planting, we do have flower & vegetable seeds in stock that you can start in peat pots NOW and transplant them once the weather warms up.
Since sunlight is less available in winter, plants have to conserve their energy. Deciduous trees lose their leaves in the fall to retain moisture and survive the winter. Evergreens are different because their needle-like structure is perfect for holding onto water. Pretty cool!
Out of the tens of thousands of plants that we could eat, we eat so few. Just think of the variety we could have and the things we might love if we tried one new fruit or vegetable each week!
