Cal Flora is a small unconventional nursery devoted to natives and habitat gardening with an exceptional diversity of offerings. We are knowledgeable and experienced with attention to local Bay Area needs and conditions. Most plants are propagated on site. In accordance with Sonoma County requirements, please wear a mask and practice safe social distancing when visiting the nursery. We can only accept credit card payments at this time.
Our new seed house is coming together! Nursery manager Amber Huntington put on the shade cloth, and her husband, Dustin, built the frame for us. Just think of all the baby plants which will emerge from those doors...
Most people probably visit Fort Ross to see the early Russian settlement, not realizing the park extends all the way up to the ridge line to the east. While the "trail system" is quite neglected and overgrown, it does offer some stellar views and uncommon botanical finds.
We saw this elegant specimen of the rare Santa Cruz manzanita (Arctostaphylos andersonii) when we visited Bonny Doon a couple of years back. Hopefully it survived the lightning complex fires. The area had recovered beautifully from the 2008 Martin Fire. Fingers crossed!
Sugarloaf Ridge State Park provided us a delightful winter hiking opportunity. The dynamic weather created an exciting day with plenty of rain, sun and wind. What more could one ask for!
