American Lawn Care has been Central Iowa's premier provider of lawn treatment, weed control, aeration, fertilization, mowing, seeding services, insect control and more for more than 30 years. Many of our staff have academic degrees in horticulture, making them exceptionally qualified to care for your property's trees and landscape.

American Lawn Care was founded and incorporated in 1990 by an Iowa State graduate with a master's degree in horticulture. Many of our staff also have associate degrees in the field. This combination of formal education and decades of experience have made us an obvious choice for many Des Moines area home and property owners who want their yards to look their best and their trees and plants to stay healthy. We are steadfast in our dedication to ensuring your lawn is lush, beautiful and free of potentially damaging insects, so you can look forward to enjoying your outdoor living space with very minimal maintenance for years to come.

What's new?

hortconsulting. com/Iowa Dr Eldon Everhart is one of the very few of my college professors that is still active in the horticulture industry. Others (such as Alex Shigo, Bob Partyka, etc) are nolonger active. Question: Anybody else know of these folks? Been educated by any? Does anybody have over 40 years experience in the horticulture industry? Does your current "expertise" rely upon "definitions of terms" in somebody's book?

This "name tag" is from "ChemScape" (ChemLawn's tree/shrub care division from the 1970's & 1980's). I still have a shirt or two just like the one here. ChemScape was decades ahead of its time. ChemScape attracted the "most renowned" arborists/ horticulturists in the world (including icons such as Dr. Bob Partyka, and Dr. Alex Shigo). I will match my "practical knowledge" with nearly any so-called expert that "pays an annual fee to belong to a group". Been doing so for 43 years. Bottom line...

A healthy lawn keeps weeds out, and the more grass you have growing, the less room there is for weeds. Regularly scheduled lawn care encourages the new growth that forces weeds out, leaving you with an emerald carpet that will be the envy of the neighborhood.

Building the health of your soil with an organic lawn maintenance program benefits your shrubs, trees, and other garden plants as well. Since the roots of your trees and shrubs extend into the soil under your lawn, they are affected by any treatments that are used on the grass.

Crabgrass is the bane of every homeowner wanting a nice lawn. An annual, it germinates, sets its seeds, and dies within a year; its seeds can lie dormant for three years. Best management practices require eradicating it before it has a chance to set its seeds.
