Greensgrow has been lucky to weather most of the year while continuing to engage the community. Our info line and general public engagement for retail garden supply will be slow while it is closed, but follow our nonprofit social campaigns across our media. We have had our first frosts and the very first snow flurries of the season. That means that the root vegetables we are harvesting will be a little sweeter than usual as a cold snap converts some of the starches to sugar. The cover crop has grown taller, lush and green; it hasn't taken a sustained hard freeze yet.
Greensgrow is an educational urban farm and demonstration garden that provides an essential connection to food and nature in an urban community. We are a non-profit dedicated to promoting social wellness through community green space. Greensgrow reconnects city dwellers with rural food producers and promoting the greening of Philadelphia's homes and gardens. Together we are building a better, more progressive and sustainable Philadelphia. We run two garden centers, educational programming, food access programs and other projects resulting in permanent jobs and sustainable income.
Join us for a tour of Greensgrow Farms! Participants will meet our animal family Ping, Milkshake, the chickens and bees, explore our high tunnels, learn about our growing practices, and visit the behind the scenes in our greenhouse. Greensgrow is a non-profit community organization and relies on your support to continue our work. The farm is open to the public throughout the year, and guided tours are by appointment. If you are interested in a tour, please contact [email protected] for more information to make a reservation.
The Community Supported Nursery shares helps get us over the final hump of the season, when you pre-purchase a pack of seedlings that are on the rise for you in our greenhouse! Ensure that you will have some seedlings and food security in this coming year! Cyclical support! 🌱
