Trusted Water Treatment Services in Mineral Ridge, OH
The Mahoning Valley Sanitary District has been dedicated to preserving public health and environmental integrity since its formation in 1926. We specialize in delivering a safe and reliable supply of potable water to communities across Mahoning and Trumbull Counties, Ohio. Our operations center around the Meander Creek Reservoir, a 7-mile-long water source with a capacity of 11 billion gallons, protected by 5,500 acres of reforested land. With a team of certified water supply operators and 57 full-time employees, we maintain 27.4 miles of pipelines and advanced treatment infrastructure to serve over 220,000 residents. Our commitment to excellence is demonstrated through rigorous environmental stewardship, including maintaining a 40-mile shoreline buffer zone with no public access to protect water quality.

The district operates under Ohio Revised Code Chapter 6115, governed by a Board of Directors appointed by member cities Youngstown and Niles. We continuously invest in infrastructure upgrades, including recent dam rehabilitation projects that enhance safety and storage capacity. Our distribution system includes critical assets like the 30-million-gallon Youngstown reservoir and Niles' 1.5-million-gallon standpipe. Through decades of service, we've maintained a track record of providing water at a cost of approximately 0.2 cents per gallon. Our technical expertise spans water treatment, pipeline maintenance, and emergency spillway management, ensuring uninterrupted service to municipalities like McDonald, Girard, and Canfield.
