Long before Interstate-40 wound through the mountains of Western North Carolina, Reed and Abee, Inc. began their ready-mix concrete business in Asheville. In 1920, they founded the Oakley Construction Company, and added construction to their services shortly thereafter. After almost 40 years serving the region, Carolina, Reed and Abee, Inc was acquired by the current company in 1958, and Asheville Concrete Materials, Inc. was well on its way. Much like the surrounding area, Asheville Concrete Materials, Inc. grew significantly over the next 25 years, expanding from one to 18 plants.
