Our commitment to you: We will listen to your needs, respect your home, and make sure that you love your new space. New Prairie Construction Company was founded in 1988 by central Illinois natives Julie Vogel Birdwell and Jill Mulder. For many years they worked as team, tackling a wide range of projects, often in older or historic buildings. In 1997, New Prairie was awarded the inspiring job of remodeling the Old Town Champaign residence known as the Wilber Mansion. Suddenly they needed their first employees.
Think of a General Contractor as an orchestra conductor. The orchestra can play without a leader, but the music wouldn't sound very pleasing. Like a skilled conductor, a General Contractor auditions the players, makes sure everyone comes in on time with their piece of the project, and coordinates the details for a harmonious finale. In addition to having a team of carpenters for hire, New Prairie normally acts as a General Contractor for our customers in the Champaign - Urbana area. New Prairie has the experience to ascertain which subs and vendors will be needed in order to complete your project.
Whether you're simply adding a grab bar or putting in a completely new bathroom, New Prairie will help make your space more comfortable, safe, and appealing. The bathroom is the most commonly remodeled room in the house. New Prairie has expertise in all aspects of bathroom remodeling — ceramic tiling, cultured marble installation, cabinetry, and more. We work hard to minimize the disruption of remodeling. Our workers respect your living space, and they prepare the work area so that dust, dirt, and noise are contained as much as possible.
We are meticulous about ensuring that your new space integrates with the original architecture. We recreate trim and match siding and finishes so that the new work blends seamlessly with the existing structure. Our skilled subcontractors assess existing electrical service and climate-control systems to determine whether they are adequately sized. If your project warrants the services of an architect, we are happy to work with yours or to recommend one. Coordination between architect and contractor, even during the design phase, can improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure a practical time frame for your project.
Remodeling the kitchen can be as simple as replacing a countertop or floor covering, or as drastic as removing walls, adding square footage, and installing a high-end, state-of-the-art culinary space. The kitchen is often considered the heart of the home. You want it to reflect your lifestyle and tastes, as well as be safe and comfortable. Older kitchens are often too small or poorly laid out, and can't accommodate a family's cooking and entertaining needs. Adding on or reconfiguring the layout can greatly improve your efficiency and comfort.
Decks and porches provide transition from the inside of your house to your neighborhood. In the warm months, they contribute beautiful, private spaces for relaxing with friends and family, barbecuing, and enjoying the weather. When you are ready to sell your house, they can yield as much as a 90% return on your investment. While the porch is larger than the original structure, the columns and trimwork are all being recreated from old photographs and original pieces found on site. The owner of this Savoy home wanted to enjoy more of her backyard, and have access to more sunshine.
