OCRRA is the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency. That's a fancy way of saying that we're the group that oversees what happens to the waste and recycling from Onondaga County communities. We've been working to keep neighborhoods like yours cleaner and healthier since 1990. With help from residents like you, these programs continue to support Onondaga County in helping save the world a little each day!

The average household pays about $90 per year for OCRRA's services, including waste disposal and recycling, free blue bins, special events/collection programs, public education, composting operations, trash and recycling drop-off site operations, and Waste-to-Energy Facility oversight. OCRRA does not perform garbage collection. This is done by your municipality or a private hauler. Given this, the amount you actually pay for "garbage" collection is likely much more than $90/year. This additional cost is not directed to OCRRA.

With help from people and businesses across Onondaga County, OCRRA has gotten really good at what we do. We're continually recognized for providing outstanding environmental services to the community. Below is a summary of the awards that we've received on both a local and a national level.

To sustain a world-class waste management system that benefits our community and environment. To use effective and fiscally-sound strategies, including waste reduction, recycling, composting, energy recovery, disposal and public education to make our community a more sustainable and healthy place to live.

There's more than one way to save the world a little each day. That's why OCRRA's system for solid waste management follows the resource management hierarchy approved by the US EPA and NYS DEC. With help from Onondaga County residents, OCRRA has been using this hierarchy to turn our community into an environmental leader. OCRRA has a series of programs that make reduction, reuse, recycling and composting easier for community residents and businesses. And while many communities struggle to hit even a 20% recycling rate, Onondaga County recycles close to 60% of its waste.
