When we say "family owned since 1954," that sums up a lot of years and a lot of hard work by a lot of good people. Here are a few of the highlights along the way. In 1954, company founder Harold Bierl opened Bierl Supply Company in his hometown of Carroll, Iowa. The store initially offered hardware, paint and carpet, and operated mainly as a supplier to Harold's other business, a construction company. The store quickly found its niche selling flooring, and began using the slogan "Bierl's Store of Floors."

Father and son, Todd and Colin Bierl own and operate Carpet One stores in Ames, Carroll, Spirit Lake and Urbandale. Todd's father, Harold Bierl, opened his first flooring store in Carroll, in 1954.
