Dr. Soot was started by Lou Neitz in 1989. After a successful career in the corporate world, Lou decided he wanted to go out and own his own business and serve his community up close. Chimney sweep may not be the first profession the average person thinks of when wanting to start a business, but the Lou was attracted to the technical aspects, the physical nature of the work and, most of all, to the satisfaction of working for himself. Martha Neitz became involved early on to handle the logistics and customer service.
