Moser was founded more than 45 years ago with the intent of restoring the lost art of making furniture well. Today there are some 70 men and women in our workshop who continue to craft pieces the same way we did at the beginning: one piece, one craftsman, one signature. We rely on sustainable North American hardwoods, traditional joinery executed by hand and individual workmanship. We are guided by our mission to build furniture that celebrates the natural beauty of wood; is of simple, unadorned, graceful lines; and is crafted for a long useful life.

Our Customer in Residence (CIR) program officially launched in September of 2007 when five long-time Moser customers spent a week with us at our shop in Maine building furniture and staying in Freeport's historic Harraseeket Inn. After some ten years, the program has blossomed into an immersive experience that has attracted hundreds of guests from all around the globe - some with no prior experience, others with years of woodworking under their belt. Doctors, engineers, performers, and more all joined by the desire to craft something out of wood with their own two hands.

When the final handwork on a piece of Thos. Moser furniture is complete, it's signed by the craftsman who brought it to life. The signature honors the gift of the natural materials used to craft the piece and sanctifies the sensitive and disciplined eye of its designer - and the weathered hands and countless heartbeats given to its making. Each signature is as important as Tom Moser's first, which was inscribed on the bottom of a custom-made piece more than four decades ago. Now, just as it did then, the signature continues to represent our standard - and uphold our promise.

Like most of our customers, we are committed to sustainability. It's a term we apply to every aspect of our business, from our work culture to the raw materials we use. That's why we take particular care in sourcing the hardwood, leather and fabrics used to produce our furniture. Success at Thos. Moser begins in the forests from which we carefully harvest our wood. Our pieces are made from North American hardwoods, including predominately black cherry from the Allegany Plateau, as well as Walnut from the riverbanks of Missouri.

A piece of furniture is a unique confluence of design, workmanship and material; each element bears responsibility for the success of the whole. Selecting the right materials for our pieces is essential. We source only the finest quality lumber, fabrics and leathers, and finishes and put considerable effort in building relationships with partners whose values and quality align with our own. We offer a wide variety of textures and colors in the finest fabrics and leathers. Our experienced Customer Care representatives are ready to help narrow the choices to those best suited to your needs.

The people who make up Thos. Moser - from craftsmen to those who support the craft - truly love what they do. If you have a passion for design, a desire to work with your hands, or a knack for being creative, we encourage you to explore our current opportunities. We are a Maine-based company offering training, competitive benefits and a supportive work environment. Our workshop and corporate headquarters are located in Auburn, Maine, and we have five showrooms across the country: Freeport (ME), Washington DC, Boston, New York, and San Francisco.

Moser designs are not cutting-edge statements of current fashion, but rather a synthesis of what has been given to us by craftsmen and designers of the past. They are timeless and, unlike style or fashion, have relevance across cultures and centuries. In designing our furniture, we are committed to simplicity in form - to achieve grace through proportion and simplicity, rather than embellishment. As such, we strive to create forms that are pleasing in themselves; forms that serve human needs and aesthetics predicated on function.
