We have a passion for these old radiators and heating systems. Knowing how to work on them is a lost art that we have spent lots of time trying to revive. Cast iron radiators are still made but only on a very limited bases, very few styles and sizes, and very pricey. Most are made in China. Many radiators that are decades, and sometimes centuries old, are still in use today, and can be reused. Many people think that these old beauties are worthless, old technology and simply throw them away to make way for modern "scorched air" systems.

What about boilers? Which one do I choose? There are 3 basic types of boilers. Cast iron, copper tube, and high efficiency. There are pros and cons for each type. Here is a break down. Cast iron- We use cast iron when ever we can. They are less expensive, last longer, and much easier to service. Why use anything else? Well, they do have some limitations, weight, size, and venting options. Sometimes they are hard to get down the stairs and into place. But a good cast iron boiler will last for generations.
