Spring is here! ….. and if you forgot to take your hoses and attachments off your outside faucets in the fall you need to be extremely careful when turning your outside faucets on for the first time . Have someone in the basement when you turn it on to make sure you do not have a leak. We had some extremely cold days this winter and split lines can happen without you knowing it. A FLOODED BASEMENT IS NOT HOW YOU WANT TO START THE SEASON!
Hey all you snowbirds! Remember before you leave for the warmer states turn your main water valve off. This eliminates any surprise water leaks while you are away. Keep your heat temperature at a moderate temp (it should not be set below 55-degrees) to keep pipes from freezing and cracking. Pipes that are in a closed space may be more susceptible to freezing so open sink and vanity doors as well as closet doors where pipes may be housed to allow some heat to get to the pipes in those areas. Tick Removal : Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20); the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away!!
Turning on the outside faucet for the first time after the winter thaw could result in a leak.
