Simply the best DC Area historical attraction, maybe the best in the entire country! If you are an American or visiting our country and are interested in our history as a nation, you must visit Mt. Vernon. George Washington was one of the best humans to ever walk this Earth and, if it wasn't for his undying patriotism and unwavering leadership in dire times, I wouldn't be writing this and you wouldn't be reading it! The man is by far the greatest American that ever lived! A visit to his home by the Potomac will solidify this claim! By George, 5 Plus Stars!

Was there in June. Beautiful, well cared for, and worth a visit. Much better than Monticello and Highlands. Lovely restaurant and gift shop too.

I spent the day at Mount Vernon, and couldn't sing it's praises enough! The grounds are one of the most beautiful areas I've been since moving to Northern Virginia. Washington's house was incredibly interesting to tour. The boat ride up the Potomac was stunning. And the museum was so informative and comprehensive! I was never a student of history, but they really bring Washington to life. Plus, most of the staff seem to really enjoy what they're doing and care about both the facility and the happiness of the people visiting. Definitely give this place a stop if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed.
