Oyster River Petroleum was founded by Ed Granfield on his parent's kitchen table in January of 1987. They set aside a small area of the house for a table and chair, a calculator, a rotary phone, a rolodex file, and a goal. That goal was to offer full service along with low cost home heating oil in the New Haven, CT area. Ed then purchased his first oil truck, a used 1976 Peterbuilt with a small 2200 gallon steel tank and by word of mouth began delivering fuel oil to friends and neighbors. Later that spring, he purchased an answering machine, a pager, and hired their first service technician, and a company was born.
