Sal Sucato, a bricklayer, came to Phoenix from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. in the 1940s to begin his masonry construction business. Sucato Masonry was instrumental in helping the Valley of the Sun develop in the 1950s and 1960s. Sal's son Ed Sucato began laying block with his three brothers when he was 14 years old.
