At AIA California, we believe in the value of the architect's skillset to achieve sustainable, smart, and resilient design solutions for the built environment. With more than 11,000 members, AIA California is the largest state component of the AIA and is uniquely positioned to impact the design and construction industry as the voice of the architectural profession in California. The American Institute of Architects California (AIA CA) is the voice of the architectural profession in California, dedicated to supporting architects in their endeavors to improve the quality of life for all Californians by creating more livable communities, sustainable designs and quality of work environments.

California law requires employers of 5 or more employee to either offer their employees a retirement program, or to register with CalSavers to make this California-managed program available to their employees. Architects must register with the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) in order to compete to provide services on a public works project. The cost of registration is $400 per year. A mechanics' lien is a claim against the real property on which the claimant has bestowed labor or furnished material for the value of the labor done or material furnished.

Mandatory Continuing Education (MCE) is education required by a state to retain licensure. Each state has the legal right to establish its own guidelines and requirements. However, most state's requirements are similar, whether they require architects to meet them annually or biannually. If you, like the average AIA member, have four or more state licenses, you must meet the continuing education requirements for all the states in which you intend to practice. Most states that require MCE will accept AIA/CES transcripts as documentation for completion of valid continuing education credit.
