GIS has received funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to strengthen and improve structures for surveillance, collaboration, coordination and response for disease outbreaks in Kenya. GIS will begin implementing the project by building the core capacities needed to effectively prevent, detect and respond to any disease outbreak of public health importance. One of GIS' core capacities will be to ensure an efficient indicator and event-based surveillance system that involves the community, support of the National Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), as well as county level EOCs, with rapid coordinated deployment and response mechanisms and a coordinating mechanism providing mobilization and logistic support.
