The Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center (CAFAC) is a non-profit arts organization that fills a unique niche in the Twin Cities. We focus on art forms produced using heat, spark, or flame: blacksmithing, glassworking, jewelry making, metal casting, neon bending, sculptural welding, and more. The pillars of our programming are arts education, artist support, and public art, which together provide a platform for social impact and community-driven resources. Classes are open to anyone with an interest and start on a quarterly basis (January, April, July, and October).
CAFAC's studio programs provide access to two well-equipped and maintained shop areas, known as the industrial floor and the mezzanine. Together, these two areas are outfitted to support artists working in blacksmithing, welding and metal fabrication, mold-making and foundry, flameworking, and neon bending. You'll find a wealth of tools, equipment, instruction, resources, and networking, as well as a supportive and creative community at CAFAC. Are you seeking an artist/fabricator to create a custom piece or do a repair?
Illuminating Legacies artist Esther Osayande spent the day with PHT staffer Mike Hoyt and friends from Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center installing her piece "Sankofa" at George Floyd Square.
