In the early 1950s, Clifford W. Cliff Murphy had managed operations for several established construction companies. Frankly he thought he could do things better. In 1955 he formed Drilling Service Co. As President of Drilling Service Cliff Murphy was a stickler for staying abreast of the latest in underground technology and in proactively pursuing customer relationships. He was later joined by his brother Marshall. Cliff and Marshall had grown up in a working-class family. They had never been exposed to social and business networking But Cliff took up golf and both he and Marshall began attending industry association events.
We've learned in over six decades that it's what's beneath the surface that counts, both in projects and in people. We have the best underground construction equipment and technology. More importantly, we have people with the personal values and experience to deliver on the Drilling Service Co. promise of Down to Earth service.
Drilling Service Co. never set out to be green in the way we do business. But, like a lot of the other business practices that we follow which are based on the examples of our founders, we've found that doing the right thing pays off. We recycle all steel, stainless steel, copper & brass cutoffs & scrap from our repair, maintenance, and manufacturing activities. We burn our used motor oil, transmission fluid and hydraulic oil in two Clean Burn furnaces for our shop and warehouses. We retrofitted the lighting in our entire facility to the most efficient lighting possible.
