Multi-tasking is a cultural requirement in the 21st century. As one of the first design-build firms in Washington D.C., Gilday Renovations has been multi-tasking for over 36 years. With architecture, design, and construction under one roof, a dynamic synergy of communication, collaboration, and expertise delivers projects efficiently, effectively, and beautifully. The team approach allows fluid dialogue between the client, architect, designer, and project manager from start to finish making only one entity responsible for a successful project-Gilday.
The porch design projects on this page show off various approaches to connecting interior space to outdoor space. Some porch additions are designed to interact directly with the kitchen, providing a walk out from cooking area to outdoor dining area. During fair weather, the doors can be left open inviting the outdoors into your kitchen. In another design, a porch becomes an extension of the dining room, an inviting place to gather for dessert or after dinner drinks. In all cases, the porch design creates a finished room where outdoors and indoors meet.
Many factors, both practical and aesthetic, influence the direction taken and the final outcome of each project. Despite their variety, our home additions share a common thread: They are designed to sit comfortably with the given aesthetic of the house. That doesn't mean our designers slavishly duplicate the style. Rather, we try to imagine a fresh modern version that resonates with the spirit of the original.
The size of lots is a big differentiator between the homes in Potomac, Maryland and nearby Bethesda. You get more land for your money. It is not hard to find a quarter acre lot. In contrast to the inner ring DC suburbs, where the housing stock has grown over many decades and so includes a range of styles and sizes, homes Potomac tend to be newer and much larger. And these present an entirely different set of home remodeling problems to be solved. Although Potomac hosts a collection of classic 1960s and '70s-era split level ranch homes, they are more spacious than the typical tract home.
Alexandria, Virginia sits on the west bank of the Potomac River, within view of downtown Washington, DC to the north. The original city, now known as "Old Town, " features brick sidewalks and buildings that date from the 18th- and 19th-century. Although historic old town is still the heart of Alexandria, most of our home remodeling projects take place in the newer homes that have developed down river and to the west in suburban neighborhoods such as Del Ray, Belle Haven and Rose Hill. Home remodeling projects in Alexandria typically involve upgrades to kitchens and bathrooms.
Most of our kitchen designs are at the center of larger, more complex projects that involve interior reconfiguration. Our designers reshape, relocate or remove interior walls and doorways as part of a big picture plan that improves family living space and rethinks the role the kitchen will play in the house. This happens to be a sweet spot for our company. Precisely because we have the staff and resources to undertake large-scale kitchen design projects, we are perfectly suited to take on smaller interior renovation projects that require a high standard of finesse.
Compared to other rooms in the house, the bathroom is not one where we spend a lot of time. Yet, it plays an important role because it is usually the first room we see at the beginning of the day and the last room we use at night before sleep. For that reason, we believe a bathroom design should make a pleasing impression. Our bathroom designs reflect that belief. And, in terms of utility, our bath designers are expert at space planning, putting every available square foot to good and beautiful use.
