The benefits of weatherization begin with reducing the energy bills of recipients for a long period of time. Some measures, such as insulating walls or roofs, for example, can provide savings for the lifetime of a house-30 years or more. I recently had insulation and air sealing done in my home and wanted to send you a note to thank you for your promptness, thoroughness and attention to detail. I really appreciated it when you arrived in person to inspect the work being done. You spent time speaking with me and took the time to provide information and answer my questions.

Our family started in the insulation business in 1951 when Elwell Perry Sr. founded Insulation Inc.; a company specializing in re-insulating homes with fireproof mineral wool. Also known as "rockwool, " this product is made from recycled steel slag, and is the only fireproof non-moisture absorbing, heavy density loose fill insulation. We use a variant of it today made by Amerrock and it continues to be the best choice for new and existing homes. Mr. Perry managed the company for thirty-five years, always striving to perform high quality services that achieved the maximum results for his customers at a fair price.

Having curled shingles means that your roof shingles have been over heated. This will occur in any roof but the process will be brought on quicker by excessive sunlight and multiple layers of shingles and bad ventilation. Using an uninsured contractor is a dangerous practice. If an employee gets hurt on the job, your home owner's insurance will be forced to cover him. This can result in law suits and policy cancellations.

Insulating the floor is a very good option if available, it enables you to easily get to the Heat resistance code of R38. It also leaves open the option of raising that value higher in the future. By insulating the floor of your attic you cut off that attic space and no longer heat that area. Insulating Rafters with prop-r-vents is good to create more conditioned space without loosing the roof ventilation. The only down side to Prop-R-vents is that the actual vents take up an inch of space which reduces the potential R-value of that space.

Basement ceiling insulation is important to keep cold air out and floors warm on first floor. Cold air will be driven into the home from the basement from what is known as the Stack Effect. Stack effect occurs because there is a difference in temperature between the inside of your home and the outside. In the Winter when your home is warmer then the outside air, the warm air rises out of the house and draws in new cold air from the basement. Thus its important to seal up and insulate your home to prevent the cold air from being drawn into the home.

Your heated air could be leaking out through the cracks in your home. Be sure to air seal when you insulate to create both a thermal and air barrier to prevent heat leakage and drafts. Cold air coming in through the lower part of your home drives heated air out the top of your home. Air Sealing is an important step in making your home more energy efficient. Air sealing works with insulation in creating a full enclosed envelope around the conditioned air spaces in your home. Call us today for us to come and check your air infiltration rate.
