The Environmental Protection Agency says to "keep indoor humidity below 60 percent (ideally between 30 and 50 percent) for relative humidity." The way to control indoor mold growth is to control moisture and "fix the source of the water problem or leak to prevent mold growth." The quickest reliable way to determine whether you need a dehumidifier is to use your nose. If you can smell mold and mildew, your basement is wet. Hopefully the moisture is simply a result of humid air because your basement is below grade.
Great work, great customer service! Our basement flooded in March 2018 after we lost power and the sump pump failed. Plus, the basement always got damp during heavy rains. Watchman Waterproofing installed a perimeter drainage system including a proper sump pump with battery backup (previous owners had the sump pump in a plastic kitchen trash bin with holes drilled into it). I have not seen ONE damp spot with all the rain we've had this Fall, never mind a puddle. Cannot be happier with the job down there! Thank you!
