Granite is one of the hardest and most durable options for stone counter tops. Some sealing is required for maintenance, but granite offers the largest color selection and a wide range of prices.* Travertine is similar to limestone, however it is the land formed version generally found in ancient riverbeds. Colors are typically soft and earthy. Due to its softness and porosity, it is better suited for bathrooms and low traffic. Soapstone is a non-porous natural stone. While it does not require sealing, many people prefer to apply a mineral oil to deepen the color.
