I hate to have to write this after 15-20 years of using this firm with complete satisfaction, but things have apparently changed since the owner, Paul, is now semi-retired, preparing the written estimates only and is no longer on-site to supervise his crews.
In this instance, the estimate agreed upon specified the removal of a bush on our hillside and to trim a similar 28 year old bush along a shared fenceline with a neighbor. The first bush remains and the second bush to be trimmed was jopped off at its base, leaving us with a spectacular view of our previously unseen neighbor's storage shed. The explanation was that there must have been a miscommunication and that I directed the job foreman to remove the fenceline bush in its entirety.
I appreciate that mistakes can happen, especially when work is done in the extreme heat of summer. That stated, all we asked of the owner was that he swing by to offer some suggestions as to what could be planted in that space that would grow quickly to replace what we had lost. That's all we wanted. Instead, he offered to try and find someone with the proper stump grinder to come over to kill the bush's stump and he suggested that we could erect a fabric barrier above the fence to shield out the roof of the storage shed (REALLY?!). And, lastly, instead of coming over personally, he offered to have the job foreman call or come over to address our concerns. We expected much more of a thoughtful and helpful response, especially after spending $6000+ on this service and our years of loyalty to this firm.
Bottom line, if you require a consult with a certified arborist, then I would highly recommend Paul. But, if you need tree trimming service in addition to the consult, I would suggest that you employ a different firm. You're likely to save a lot of money as well!

My mom was in need of having a fruitless olive tree in her backyard trimmed-it had many dead branches (including some on the roof of the house), she also a needed a diseased Meyer lemon tree removed. The olive tree had previously been trimmed by somebody else several years ago and we were all extremely disappointed by the work and apparent lack of knowledge of how to properly trim the tree. After doing research we chose the Tree Barber. A call was made and an appointment set with Luke Rider to provide an estimate. A few days later, he arrived and explained to my mom what needed to be done and he gave her an estimate including clean up and hauling away the branches along with the diseased lemon tree. He also gave her an estimate for trimming the 2 liquid amber trees in the front yard-which he said should be done in the fall. Both estimates seemed quite fair and a week or so later the team arrived to do the work. A final inspection of the job was done by Paul Rider. All services were finished quickly and well done from estimate to trimming to clean up!!!! We would highly recommend them to anyone.

These guys are fantastic! Not only did they come out to our house and trim our trees perfectly, but they also gave us recommendations on how to keep them healthy. What to give them a fertilizer and what to use for insects. What a difference. We highly recommend the Tree Barber. Plus the guys are so nice, they went out of their way for us.
