Trees are an important part of our community and enhance the environment by: absorbing carbon dioxide; improving water quality through filtration and erosion control; providing temperature control and wind breaks; and supporting wildlife habitat necessary for biodiversity. Trees have also been shown to increase property values, reduce crime, and improve mental health. The City of Ames has been a recognized "Tree City USA" since 1983. The Tree City USA program is a national program that provides the framework for community forestry management for cities and towns across America.
The City of Ames publishes a monthly newsletter, which is included with your utility bill. The four-page publication has information from both the City of Ames and Ames Electric Services. City Side includes articles on City services, programs, and events. It also has important phone numbers for reference. If you missed your newsletter or need to look something up, check out our City Side archives.
If you would like to question whether a person has his or her professional license granted by the City (house movers, tree trimmers, etc.), contact the City Clerk's Office at 515-239-5105.
