While we became an official Town when residents voted for incorporation in 1988, our history goes back much further. Local historians have found signs of Serrano Indian camps along the Mojave River in Apple Valley. They were already here when Father Francisco Garces arrived in 1776, as he established the Spanish missions throughout California. In the late 1800s, the Paiute Indians also migrated to this area.

The Building and Safety Division helps facilitate construction projects within the Town boundaries. We perform plan review for code compliance and building inspection services during the construction of projects in Town. We are now using an online service to accept building plans electronically. Once we receive your application and PDFs, our Building and Safety staff will contact you with a Plan Check fee that can be paid over the phone with a credit card.

The Engineering Department provides staff support to perform legally required reviews and approvals of Tentative Subdivision Maps, review Final Subdivision Maps, review street improvement, grading and drainage plans, and review hydrology, traffic and soils reports for all new developments. In addition, the department provides project and construction management for Capital Improvement projects, and staff support to generate and maintain maps for the Town. Engineering also provides staff support for the Traffic Committee.
