Downtown Muskegon is the heart of the Muskegon Lakeshore region. Downtown Muskegon is the focus of art, history and culture in Muskegon; home to its public and private institutions; new and ever-expanding living options; and a platform for an amazing array of year-round events and activities. It is a downtown on an amazing waterfront. Beginning today, Friday, September 25 you will be able to take your drinks to go from participating establishments and enjoy them while taking a stroll downtown! The social district boundaries will be marked by sidewalk signs with the attached information.
I love all the positive changes happening downtown, but, looking back there have always been a lot of reasons for us to like it. I used to shop at the mall quite a bit when I was growing up, the Seaway Festival Parade, and rides, hockey games at the LC, graduations at the LC, Racquets, the Holiday Inn, Parties in the Park, Hackley Library, The Art Museum and the Lakeshore Museum Center to name a few. I loved when the bike path and Heritage Landing were added. We used to go to The Lumbertown Music Festival, then Summer Celebration. Now we go to The Irish Music Festival, Bike Time and the relocated Farmer's Market. I've been enjoying downtown for decades, and I know we've had our issues over the years, but most towns do with the passage of time. I love everything that's going on down there now, but I've always loved our downtown, my hometown Muskegon!
I want to give a huge thank you to the staff who are keeping our sidewalks free of snow - even on Sundays! I am a business owner on Jefferson and appreciate it SO MUCH!
If Muskegon can stay growing in a positive way then we are going in the right direction. Now we just need to get the bad seeds out that are causing shootings and killing people, otherwise we will never be where we want to be for a great place to live and visit.
