Whittier Fertilizer receives the green organic materials. It is first processed in a large, powerful grinder. It is then turned, aged, composted and then finally screened to various sizes to create such products as soil amendments, soil and planter mixes, seed cover and landscape mulches. All utilities used in the recycling process, such as the grinder screens and loading equipment are permitted and meet the standards of AQMD and/orARB. To keep our composting permit up to date, the facility is visited on a monthly basis to inspect the cleanliness and quality of our organic products, ensuring that it is free from any harmful contamination, bad odors or vectors.
