Why do I need my chimney cleaned? When you burn wood or fire logs, whether they are Duraflame, Pine Mountain, etc., the smoke that travels up the chimney contains small particles of tar and unburned wood. These substances collect and build up on the chimney's walls and are very flammable and can easily catch on fire. That means the build-up must be removed in order to prevent a fire from starting in the chimney area. How often should I have my chimney cleaned? The quick answer is, according to The National Fire Protection Association standard 211, Chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be inspected at least once a year for soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearances.
