Questions about your home energy bills? Looking for ways to reduce costs, make your home more comfortable, or add solar to the mix? After helping more than 13,000 of your neighbors since 2010, we've got answers. LEAP is a nonprofit that matches you with the best programs, contractors, and financing options available in your area. You get valuable home upgrades like energy efficiency and solar panels - customized to your needs and budget. We help you understand your options, and we're on your side every step of the way.

Our story began in the fall of 2009, when the City of Charlottesville and County of Albemarle jointly applied for and won a competitive grant to fund a community-based energy efficiency organization. After the formation of our Governance Board, the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2010. LEAP began its highly successful path of home energy upgrades by launching its Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program in July 2010, followed by a program for commercial property owners in 2011, and the start of renewable energy services with the first Solarize campaign in 2014.

LEAP provides energy assessments for homes and businesses to identify how your building is using energy, health and safety issues, and what improvements you could make or renewable energy systems you might install. We have several levels of assessments to meet your budget, learn more here. We recognize that the success of our Clean Energy Future depends in large part upon education and empowerment. To this end, we develop workshops and educational programs, and seek out community outreach opportunities to provide the background knowledge building owners and residents need to think big and take action, learn more here.

I love LEAP! Wilson and the rest of the staff are so knowledgeable. Thanks for what you do to help people cut costs on utility bills and have a healthier, more comfortable home.

The visit by LEAP to my 50 year old house was fast, informative and very encouraging. I highly recommend all Restonians take advantage of this program. There is nothing to lose and so much to gain.

Just had a great home energy assessment w. Shayne Sandner. Costs $45 but $10 goes to Friends of Reston. You get everything checked top to bottom (visual), told of simple improvements (caulking and changing refrigerator temperature settings) 9 free energy efficient lite bulbs and one free energy efficient power strip. Well worth doing!
