Termite treatments have evolved quite a bit in the last 20 years. Before then, termite treatments were pretty standard; trench and drill the foundation, drill the slabs, and pump the chemical. You can still go this route today, but there are other options and there are even choices as to which liquid to choose as well. One option is a Termite Baiting System. There are a few brands on the market. The top two are the Advance Termite Baiting system and the Sentricon system. Termite baiting systems are a great low-impact way to attack termite populations around structures.

Our philosophy on pest control is this: If the bugs can't get in, then they won't bother you. That's why we do most of our work outside your home. Nine times out of ten, the actual infestation or main cause of the pest problem in your home can be traced to outdoors. By concentrating our efforts outside your home we dramatically decrease the need to add pesticides inside during our visits. In fact, many of our customers haven't had a pesticide applied inside their homes in more than two years! Some problems will require that we treat inside.

Here in western North Carolina, there are two main roaches; German roaches, and everything else. Blue Ridge Termite tackles your German roach problem by using the top-of-the-line roach baits in combination with IGR's. IGR stands for Insect Growth Regulator: a synthetic hormone that breaks the breeding cycle. So, the bait(s) tackle the roaches crawling around while the IGR makes it impossible for any missed roaches the make a comeback. For German roaches we automatically schedule a two week follow up to make sure everything is working properly, and include up to one more follow up if needed - all included for one price.

For the most part spiders stay to themselves, and aren't aggressive unless they feel threatened. That being said there are a couple of spiders that can have a nasty bite and reaction - namely the black widow spider and the brown recluse spider. Other spiders common here are jumping spiders, wolf spiders, and cellar spiders (the ones that make those webs you walk into when go into the basement or crawl space). Spider populations usually peak in the fall, so the best time for a one time service would be September or October, but your situation might be different.

Termites are a fact of life in North Carolina. You may have heard the saying:There are two types of houses: those that have termites, and those that will. Some might even argue that there should be a third type: those that will get termites again. Subterranean termites live underground, so control efforts deal with treatments to the soil under and around buildings. Traditional treatments use chemicals mixed with water that are applied to the soil to kill or repel termites around the structure. Newer methods attack the termite population around a building by feeding bait to worker termites who then share it with the rest of the colony.

If you have pets you need to keep them on a vet recommended flea treatment or you will get fleas. If the previous warning came to too late for you, then you need a flea treatment. That's because by the time you start to see fleas jumping on you, the overall population is over ten times the number you actually see. And, to make matters worse the final stage of flea development, the pupa, is impervious to just about any pesticide while it's in its cocoon. Rest assured, Blue Ridge Termite can apply the proper treatment that will kill off the adult fleas that bite you and also stop their breeding cycle using IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) technology.

Here's a few you may have heard of: carpenter ants, acrobat ants, odorous house ants, fire ants, and pharaoh ants. Then there's the more more general terms such as: sweet ants, sugar ants, or piss ants. It's takes quite a while to get to know all these little guys and their habits. Some eat baits readily, some don't. Some are best controlled by treating the whole house, some not so much. Without experience the basic do-it-yourselfer probably won't be effective with any over-the-counter product or strategy.

What's new?

Spiders get a bad rap and blamed for just about every skin welt of unknown origin. This is from a highly respected, long time (now retired) industry pro that is an associate certified entomologist. Basically he knows his stuff.

Pretty irresponsible @AngiesList . Yes, termites are controlled using pesticides but when pro applied - safe. https://t.co/fL91gawfzH
