For many years, if a client wanted a front gate, we created a front gate. Then their next challenge was having the driveway gates automated and the gate openers mounted correctly. We witnessed the client's pain of outlining a beautifully executed gate design; we delivered with an immaculate finish only to have the gate opener installer destroy the powder-coat finish integrity by welding, grinding, and sanding to mount the correct mechanism. We then took it upon ourselves to alleviate that client's pain and see how we can provide the best client experience possible.

We were contacted by a client in Philadelphia about historic balcony railings and terrace railings. The original wrought iron railings were approximately 100 years old and some were in a state of neglect. The original balconies had been originally mounted to the wood structure with two rows of brick laid in front, making the mountings totally inaccessible. The team came up with an innovative way to remove and reattach. The original frames were cut approximately 6" from the brick and a 12" long tapered block created to fit inside the main balcony frames.

As part of a turnkey property perimeter security solution, our custom aluminum fence can be built to your design specifications. The modern version of a iron fence is typically built with hollow pickets, has minimal structural rigidity, and is usually assembled with minimal rivets, screws, or clips. While its first cost can be economical, security and rigidity can be compromised and for an exceptional property, its low quality can actually be a takeaway for a cohesive design statement. Compass Ironworks provides the ultimate in design, security, rigidity, and long-term value.

A couple was building an upscale diner in New Jersey on a cliff with awesome views of the New York skyline. They got design inspiration from the architecture of the Biltmore mansion in North Carolina. While the cliff provided panoramic views, it also created a hazard that had to be dealt with a very rigid security fence. The challenge was to also make the security fence very aesthetically pleasing, complementing the caliber of design of the diner. A custom pool security fence can create symmetry in landscape design and architecture to enhance visual harmony in a family's private sanctuary.

Railings are an important function for safety as well as code compliance for local community and state requirements. Architects and designers utilize railings as a strategy to accentuate their design statement. Done correctly, stair railings can provide harmony in the architectural environment. A wide range of materials are available, from traditional wrought iron railings to contemporary polished brass handrails, to a solid welded aluminum spiral staircase. There's a diversity of design expressions possible utilizing metal.

For a commercial restaurant, hotel, or banquet facility, Compass Ironworks can create architectural stairs, contemporary stairs, even glass stairs, as well as safety railings, ornamental railings, and privacy fences, to meet the specific design sensibilities of any commercial project. Our attention to detail and high-quality, powder-coat finish make Compass a perfect fit for an upscale commercial establishment. The dedication from the team for on-time completion is a phenomenal asset to contractors that have rigid timeframes for completion.

After many years of hard work and effort, a successful businessman built his company to a point where he could afford to provide a specially built home for his wife and family. They selected a lakefront property and had the entire landscape designed for their relaxation and enjoyment, with a pool designed within their own private sanctuary. Perimeter security for exceptional properties of high-net-worth individuals can be achieved with visual appeal by installing a custom decorative iron or solid aluminum security fence.

We were contacted by a New Jersey custom homebuilder who was building an exceptional home on the New Jersey shore. The interior designer showed a modern stair design that included radial steel stair stringers on either side of glass treads, curved glass railings, and brushed stainless handrail for both flights of custom curved stairs. The first challenge was engineering the curved steel stair stringers, because the design intent was for open tread design. The next challenge was calculating the correct rise and run of each tread in conjunction with the correct stringer radius and rake angle for both the inside and outside to match perfectly for level glass stair treads.

Front home security gates have the ability to make a great first impression, and can stop any intruder or unwanted guest. Driveway gates can provide privacy and security. A wrought iron gate design can be quite traditional or dramatic, or it can somewhat understated. If a sleek, modern design gate is more in tune with your architecture or landscape design, it can be done in a metallic or silver color. Compass Iron Security services can collaborate on gate openers integrated with your smart home or security system.

We are participating in the hottest trend in design - contemporary steel structure stairs. Progressive designers are thrilled that they can create their own signature style, and are utilizing masonry, glass, stainless, wood, bronze, and iron materials. Whatever their design forte - contemporary, traditional, rustic, modern, eclectic or reclaimed - they can have their specific style created by selecting floating stairs, suspended glass railings, sleek handrails, and structural design.

The client requested a driveway gate in solid aluminum based on a grainy photo of an old sketch. We did our research and found that the iron gate made off the original fence originated in England in 1861. The original piece was cast iron, created with molds that have long since been destroyed or lost. Utilizing a combination of forgings, castings, and bar stock, we replicated the cast iron look in aluminum. There were two significant aspects that would facilitate labor intensity and cost if the original was to be followed "to a T." By the nature of the joinery and rosette detail on the original, we could tell that both the cross members and verticals were 1" square solid bar.
