We at Tailor Decks have been building decks in the metro Athens, Georgiaarea for over 20 years now. We believe Atlanta to be a great breeding ground for decks and screened porches everywhere. It boasts one of the highest volume of decks and additions per capita and experiences the full range of seasons. Being in the business so long, we've experienced and worked with just about all the available decking materials and supplies over the years. Some have been fine, but many fall short. They're either unnatural as in the case of composites, or they start wearing down far too early.

Having a second story (or even third story) deck means that whatever's on the level below is open to water runoff. Most of our customers want to use this space underneath, so a drain system of some kind is in order. We've tried several over the years before finding the DEK Drain system. DEK Drain is an excellent building product engineered to capture and divert rainwater keeping the area under it dry. We'll be happy to tell you all about the many benefits along with how it fits within the Tailored-Wood installation process.

So take the total square footage of your deck and divide it by the square footage of the length of the board you desire and this will give you the # of boards you need for your deck. Confused? No worries, just call us as we figure needed project materials every day!

Composite/PVC is fabricated material. Tailored-Wood uses the highest chemical solution offered by Wolmanized - known as "in ground" treatment. We use this treatment in every board no matter if it has ground contact or not. This highest strength serves to preserve the deck and porch material even more. While the industry standard is to kiln-dry the wood for about 8 hours, we choose a minimum of three days for the process. This enhances the aesthetic and durability qualities of the wood. Deck and porch material is not typically milled for functionality.

Over the past 20 years, we at Tailor Decks have had the opportunity to build hundreds of decks and screened porches. During that time, we've used all the industry-endorsed building materials including cedar, redwood, pine, exotic hardwoods, composites and PVC's. Like most deck builders, we experienced a long array of issues with the generally accepted building products including: cupping, discoloration, extreme temperatures, rotting, scratching, separation, splintering, slipperiness, instability, staining, twisting, and warping.

NADRA (North American Deck and Railing Association) recently awarded Tailored-Wood as the best wood vendor for 2014. The 2014 NADRA award ceremony washeld at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. 18 top awards were presented which included national deck projects of certain sizes as well as vendors. The BestDeck Vendor Award was based on a deck project using Tailored-Wood in Georgia. It recognizes the years of hard work and improvement made to ourTailored-Wood product line.
