Patrick Thompson Design

Patrick Thompson Design is a Detroit-based studio specializing in hospitality, commercial and retail spaces. We focus on creating highly customized interiors, and we work closely with designers, craftsmen, and fabricators who value design and the process. PTD brings a holistic approach to each project. Our firm provides architecture, interior design, graphic design, product design, and brand management services. Since its inception in 2009, PTD has designed spaces for museums, hotels, restaurants, offices, retail establishments, and residences for our clients.

Our goal was to provide Sanders' new flagship in Clinton Township an interior as iconic as its signature bumpy cake. Hexagonal field tile, a classy tiled logo, and striped awnings over upholstered window benches give an inspiration nod to classic ice cream shops, while the overall space — understated and sophisticated with signature design elements — allows the candy and confections to take center stage. Modern touches include polished concrete floors and an exposed black ceiling; liberal use of beautiful white oak for columns, beams, milled paneling, shelving, and illuminated sign boxes; and the row of factory frame windows peeking into the bakery.
