Southern Light Solar began with one goal in mind: to make solar power both affordable and easy for Massachusetts -and as of 2016, Rhode Island - homeowners and businesses. As residents of the Bay State ourselves, we were very aware of the rising and unpredictable costs of oil and electricity and the uncertainty that comes with it. We know that whether you're a homeowner or a business, knowing what you're going to pay each month is a welcome relief. Our talent lies in making the complex world of solar simple, affordable, and accessible for our customers.
Southern Light Solar provides personalized solar projects and proposals for all customers interested in solar power solutions for your home or business. We are with our clients every step of the way from consulting, procuring grants and permits, implementing the best solar product lines for your project, optimizing the solar power installation for your property's requirements and follow through on quality testing and continued maintenance. Southern Light Solar's experience with solar power component manufacturers is second to none.
A solar carport or canopy is designed and built to provide sizable solar energy production capacity either as an expansion to an existing rooftop system or in place of the same. Unlike traditional ground mounted designs, they are dual purpose, most commonly providing covered car parking as well as hundreds of kilowatts of solar power. Where shade is needed for covered storage or an outside working shed, solar canopies are also a perfect fit. In high population density states like Massachusetts and Rhode Islands, efficient and economic use of land is important.
Designing the best solar energy solutions for Massachusetts and Rhode Island homes needs a slightly different approach than some other regions in the country. Environmental conditions throughout the seasons offer certain challenges. And the available sunlight, while more than sufficient, is different that places of lower latitude or closer to the equator. Seasons change more in New England by comparison, as we all know. The great majority of homeowners can meet their total electricity needs with a rooftop solar energy system between approximately 7 kW and 12 kW in rated solar power capacity.
A slate roof is chosen by designers and home buyers as the premium choice for longevity and appearance. Most structures built to support a slate roof are well suited for a solar energy system. Southern Light Solar follows best practices both in selecting and installing solar panel mounting and racking hardware on slate roofs. By designing with components from reputable and proven manufacturers such as IronRidge, among others, we are assuring our customers that years of experience is working for them.
In designing a rooftop solar energy mounting system, Southern Light Solar takes every important factor into account. For our region, this includes defining the best solar panel tilt angle to get the best energy generation results. When that optimum angle cannot be met, we can predict the small efficiency changes across the four seasons. Modern solar panel and solar power inverter designs help to minimize this condition, and in almost every case the cost and appearance of forcing a solar panel tilt different from roof pitch make it not a good idea.
Merry Christmas from our families to yours!
