HEAL Utah is an environmental nonprofit that uses grassroots campaigns and policy-side tactics to protect Utah's natural beauty and our health from environmental threats. We work throughout Utah on clean air, renewable energy, climate change, and nuclear waste issues. We are proud of our origins as grassroots activists and continue to depend on our supporters to remain vigilant in identifying and resisting environmental threats to the health if Utahns. We ensure that the HEAL community is mobilized by providing education and advocacy trainings and creating avenues for individual voices to be heard.
As Utah's population increases and spurs development, area sources stand to become Utah's largest pollution source. Area sources include homes, businesses, development projects, off-road vehicles (like construction equipment), and agriculture. The main tool to reduce area source emissions is establishing technical regulations that Utah's public agencies can enforce. This starts with the establishment of cleaner standards that specific sources must meet and hold area source emitters accountable. However, individual action — from pressure on large area source emitters like developers to changes made in your own home appliances — can still reduce emissions.
Personal, permanent changes in a household's energy use can be one of the most effective ways to combat climate change. By making our own transition to cleaner energy, we can encourage those around us to do the same. While personal renewable energy and energy efficient appliances began as expensive luxuries, rapid innovation has made these innovations significantly more affordable and accessible. We do this by defending rooftop solar, incentivizing battery storage options, educating others on energy efficient upgrades they can make, and promoting legislation that will encourage the growth of this industry.
