For Sparano + Mooney Architecture, great design is at the heart of our architectural practice. The office is focused on delivering thoughtful, innovative and contemporary design solutions to accommodate a client's visionary, functional and budgetary requirements. The state-of-the-art design practice balances leading edge technologies with timeless sustainable design practices inspired by nature. At its core, the firm's work is derived from two complementary progenitors. The first is an exploration of hyper-specific cultural cues culled from the project's client, program or site.
The exterior is clad with full-height vertical cedar wood boards, finished in a warm dark finish.
The process of conceiving and conceptualizing this house began while walking the site, the work began to coalesce around an idea of textures, materials, and expressed joinery and connections. The residence is separated into two volumes that float above the landscape, preserving the native vegetation.
The design emerged as an expression of both static and dynamic elements, referencing the relationship of the mountain and the plant life and wildlife on the site.
Wabi-sabi is inspired by the ancient tenet of Japanese aesthetic culture, espousing simplicity and honesty in expression. It is a philosophy of beauty that embraces the imperfect, the incomplete and the transient.
Wabi-sabi is a recently completed project by Sparano + Mooney Architecture located adjacent to a nature preserve in Emigration Canyon celebrating a uniquely elevated canyon view with a rare and direct connection to nature.
