Van Winden's Garden Center has been a cornerstone of Napa Valley's horticultural community since 1953. Founded by Peter Van Winden, a Dutch immigrant with a lifelong passion for plants, our nursery began as a modest two-acre property and has grown into a beloved destination for gardening enthusiasts. Our commitment to quality, selection, and personalized service has sustained us through decades of change, including the rise of big-box retailers. Today, four of Peter's daughters actively manage the business alongside a team of dedicated experts who share our deep knowledge of local growing conditions. We offer over 300 rose varieties, Japanese maples, vegetable starts, and houseplants, complemented by educational seminars, delivery services, and curated gardening products. Our staff's collective expertise spans generations, ensuring every customer receives tailored advice for their unique gardening needs.

While Peter celebrated his 90th birthday in 2019, his legacy of innovation continues through our ongoing research into climate-appropriate plant varieties at our Big Ranch Road growing grounds. We remain family-owned and community-focused, prioritizing customer relationships over transactional interactions. Our physical nursery features informative plant signage, seasonal events, and a gift shop offering curated home dcor items. From our humble beginnings with a repurposed shipping crate storefront to our current status as Napa's trusted gardening resource, we've maintained the same core values that guided Peter when he made his first Camellia sale in 1953.
