A native of Bloomington-Normal, David graduated from Bloomington High School in 1968 before serving in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1969-1971. After an honorable discharge, he attended Illinois State University and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelors Degree in Business. While attending college David honed is skills working as a carpenter. In 1976 entered into a career as a general contractor specializing in new construction and remodeling. In 1979, David relocated to Phoenix, AZ building for Pulte Homes.
