Sidewalk or driveway sinking may have already cracked your sidewalk in a few spots. So long as the overall slabs are intact, we can lift, stabilize, and resurface old concrete to extend its lifespan well beyond its original life. Most people don't realize the influence insulation has on ice dam and rodent development. In many cases, upgrading insulation will resolve both issues while offering all the other benefits of great insulation. We almost always do an on-site inspection prior to the work.
In 1985, I was named Director of the Weatherization Program, a Department of Energy (DOE) federal program. In this position, I was involved in third-party testing for and participated in several DOE energy studies. We insulate hundreds of Wisconsin homes each year, have sprayed enough closed-cell foam insulation to cover a football field 10 feet deep, and have installed millions of pounds of environmentally friendly cellulose insulation.
There are many ways concrete becomes damaged, and an equal number of ways to repair it. Each have their limitations, but one concept is consistent--when repairing are possible, it almost certainly is a better option than replacement. If you're only dealing with surface damage and a new piece of concrete hasn't cracked off, then your concrete driveway repair--or any other concrete repair for that matter--are likely to work. When the concrete has cracked into too many and/or small of pieces, the stabilization process is no longer possible.
Cellulose insulates far better and offers many additional benefits for a slightly higher upfront cost. If the project costs are wrapped into financing, such as for renovation or new home construction, cellulose is less expensive because it reduces monthly heating and cooling utility bills more than it increases monthly financing payments. Knowing what's the best insulation for your project can be challenging with all the information out there. Whether discussing insulating basement walls, blown-in attic insulation, or new home insulation, the project will almost certainly use fiberglass, cellulose, and/or spray foam insulation.
With a similar price but few of the problems associated with traditional insulation, the treated natural fibers that make up cellulose insulation excel in nearly every category. It provides far superior real world insulation capacity, resists mold and moisture, repels rodents and pests, reduces sound, slows fires, and noticeably improves comfort in the home. See here for a side by side comparison of common insulation types. Cellulose insulation is made by pulverizing, treating, and fluffing natural fibers.
Please note - This process can be incredibly dusty, and our team will contain the particles as much as possible. However, additional cleanup by the homeowner is typically required after airborne dust settles. The type of insulation partially determines the speed, and therefore cost, at which insulation removal companies can work. However, other factors play a much larger role in project scope than the type of insulation. Some insulation companies will always recommend full replacement. However, we utilize the existing insulation when possible to reduce both costs and total waste that's sent to landfills around Madison.
