In accordance with the governor's mandate we will limit the number of customers allowed inside the store and greenhouses. If you are high-risk and would like to use curb-side service-just give us a call 207-781-4142! In 1911, Allen, Sterling & Lothrop opened a farm supply and seed store on Exchange Street in Portland, Maine, later moving to the triangle at Federal and Middle Streets. In 1969 we lost our Middle Street shop to an urban renewal project in Portland. This was truly a "blessing in disguise" because it allowed us to relocate to our current location on Rt.1 in Falmouth, Maine.
Shirley first worked as a secretary at Allen, Sterling, & Lothrop on Middle St in Portland when her father, Mickey Maguire, bought the business in the 1960's. Under her father's leadership the struggling business thrived and she and her husband Tony to took over the business in 1982. Shirley is as much a fixture at AS&L as her father was and can be found most days doing what she likes best, helping customers and tending her greenhouse. She enjoys all the people associated with AS&L from the customers to her co-workers and employees-she especially loves working with her children Shawn and Jenn.
Allen, Sterling & Lothrop has been selling the same "Sterling Quality" seeds and top quality lawn, garden and greenhouse supplies that we offer in our retail store at wholesale prices, to fine garden centers, greenhouses, farm stands, and hardware stores since the business began back in 1911. Over the years we have worked hard to expand our product offerings to include many of the very best national and local brands. We understand that this is an ongoing process and continue to strive to provide the growers and dealers we supply with the best products available.
Friendly, helpful people. They all take time to say hi and answer any questions. Always great plants. (Posted by leslie)
