Our volunteer-driven community club is entering the 37th year of encouraging Northern Utah youth to participate in sports. We teach achieving joy in life, a sense of community, good health, honesty, and respect for others through the sport of fencing. We train fencers in Olympic-style foil, epee, and saber. Many of our fencers are among the best in Utah and the nation. While we are very proud of all our members' life accomplishments. Many have gone on to fence for NCAA programs such as Duke, MIT, Princeton, Air Force Academy, Notre Dame, and Stanford universities.

Wasatch Fencing focus is on helping youth develop respect for others, develop a strong work ethic, building self-esteem and create a healthy attitude toward life. We believe youth should be immersed in sports as sport provides an opportunity to develop skills needed along life's path. We just happen to have a passion for fencing. Wasatch Fencing is a volunteer driven, non-profit organization. Our club is simply a way we, in a small way, give back to the community. Our club started on a handball court at Hill Air Force Base in 1983 by Shawn Hart and Bob Babcock.

If sport mimics life, then fencing attempts to satisfy one of man's primordial instincts — the urge to risk it all with weapon in hand. If you are looking for a sport that involves speed, agility and the chess like strategic thinking, then fencing is for you. We're not talking chain link or picket here, but foil, epee and sabre — the three weapons used in national, international, NCAA and Olympic competition. The general object for each weapon is the same: Touch your opponent without being touched.

My 12 year old novice fencer loves learning here and I love the price and schedule!

I wouldn't trade the 10+ years I spent at Wasatch Fencing for anything. They taught me so much more than just sword fighting (which they are excellent at, as well). When I was a volunteer coach/aid as a youth, they emphasized helping younger children learn more than just fencing but how to think, behave, and react to life. This club is incredible and stands for more than a sport. Thanks so much Ron, James, and Martin!

Great instructors and great kids. Love the environment that Ron, James, and Martin have built.

What's new?

We have a few spots left in our youth fencing program for 8 to 10-year olds. They meet either on Monday/ Wednesday or Tuesday/ Thursday at 4:20 p.m.. Contact us for more information at ronh@wasatchfen cing.org or message us.

It has been great to be back giving one-on-one lessons at the club. Thanks to all of our coaches help in developing procedures that make all comfortable being back in-person. Bouting? Well we are still working on that. We think we will hold limited bouting sessions within a few weeks.
